BEAM is proud to announce five of their projects received awards at the 2023 IES Philaments Award Dinner for Temple University’s Mazur Hall, Saint Mark’s Church, Penthouse at Naples, Cencora Headquarters, and PHMC at 4601 Market Street. The studio took home the only two Philaments this year!
Temple University’s Mazur Hall won a Philament Award and a National IES Award of Merit. The lighting challenge maintains the pristine shape without focusing on the actual luminaires fixtures and provides enough lighting for individual study and screen use seated. Floodlights are discretely placed on the structure to softly and evenly illuminate the ceilings. A continuous channel of light follows the graceful curve at the underside of the mezzanine level.
Saint Mark’s Church received a Philament Award and National IES Award of Merit. This enchanting church is a gathering place for the community, religious worship and center of charity in downtown Philadelphia. BEAM introduced discreet track lighting along the roof lines to directly illuminate the pews, accent architectural embellishments and uplight the ceilings. The lighting expands the volume of the sanctuary and reveals sculptures, paintings and other features that were previously cloaked in darkness.
Penthouse at Naples featuring an incredible 2D and 3D art collection, won a Section Award. The concept: Integrate light into the architecture, allowing the art to be the primary focus. Each art piece was studied and a specific lighting solution was developed to accentuate the materiality and shape, while still allowing flexibility to accommodate adjustments in the field.
Cencora Headquarters won a Section Award as well as a National IES Award of Merit. With an interior design concept of connecting the community, floors and various departments, BEAM integrated a striking lighting design throughout their new offices that reinforced this concept, with the primary focus on the central amenity spaces and interconnecting stair.
PHMC at 4601 Market Street received a Section Award. A variety of lighting techniques were employed: highlighting the ceiling elevation and geometry with recessed shapes and rhythmic patterns, scaling a space with large pendants, and bolstering activity with sparkle and arbitrary variety.
