The lighting designers at BEAM vary in educational backgrounds and creative design fields, including architecture, interior design and theater. We approach each project as a blank canvas with the intention of using innovative lighting solutions to complement the architecture, enhance atmospheres and secure comfort for the end-user.

Lighting technology is a continually evolving science with advances and new LED products being introduced frequently. A lighting designer’s role is especially critical on projects that require unique lighting applications where the experience of a specialized consultant is invaluable.
We understand how light affects humans, and consider hue, color rendering, and controls integration to shape our lighting solutions and better serve our clients. Often, BEAM performs product mockups to assure the light quality expectations are met.
Our designers attend as well as present educational lighting conferences and courses, participate in local and international lighting organizations, and uphold their Professional Lighting Certification. Our close professional relationships with lighting manufacturers and rep agencies assure that we are offering the most recent and accurate knowledge to our clients.
As lighting technology evolves, light becomes more controllable, more flexible, more colorful, and light sources are the smallest than they’ve ever been. Light is not the message, but the medium for expressing re-imagined nighttime environments.

Testing luminaires in field
BEAM is not directly associated with a particular manufacturer, rep agency or distributor; therefore, we approach each project unbiased. BEAM selects luminaires that are in the best interest of the project regarding performance, aesthetic and budget. We take on the responsibility to obtain and review product samples, write the specification, compile budget pricing information, coordinate with the local reps and manufacturers, and review submittals. BEAM’s clients experience the peace of mind that they are receiving the best products for their budget.
Luminaire Schedule Sample
Typical project documentation that a client can expect to receive from BEAM includes Lighting Plans, Luminaire Schedule, and Luminaire Cutsheets. We work in AutoCAD and all versions of Revit for our deliverables. Some projects require additional documentation such as photometric plans, control zone diagrams/schedules, LEED or Light Power Density documentation, COMcheck, and renderings and sketches.
BEAM approaches each project responsibly by utilizing sustainable design technology from schematics through construction. Our experience in LEED and WELL projects, as well as ASHRAE and local energy codes are critical for today’s projects. BEAM produces the necessary documentation, such as COMcheck and daylight analysis. We design lighting to meet criteria for LEED points, regulations for Energy Star, DarkSky, and Township ordinances, as required for each project.
