Saint Mark’s Church is a gathering place for the community, religious worship and center of charity in downtown Philadelphia
The 1849 church is a beautiful example of Gothic Revival architecture that simultaneously creates a humbling and elevating space. BEAM designed a lighting scheme for the west and south vestibules, narthex, nave, chancel and altar that enhances the detail and fine craftsmanship of the architecture.
Introducing discreet track lighting along the roof lines to directly illuminate the pews, accent architectural embellishments and uplight the dark wood ceilings, expands the volume of the sanctuary and reveals sculptures, paintings and other features that were previously cloaked in darkness.
The use of DMX control provides individual addressing of the track heads offering extreme flexibility for the users. Keypads were placed at important locations, a hard-wired touchscreen offers detailed programming opportunities, and an easy-to-use portable touchscreen allows the staff to adjust for unique needs and special services within the space.
