Relighting and rejuvenating the Lobby at the iconic Wanamaker House
Creating a welcome beacon for residents and guests and evenly backlighting the new frosted storefront glass was a crucial goal in relighting the Lobby at the Wanamaker House. The backlight system is carefully spaced to accommodate these varied depths between walls and glazing and successfully frame the new lobby entrance.
At the reception desk, BEAM collaborated with the architect and custom luminaire manufacturer and oversaw the recreation of a classic decorative luminaire that celebrates the arrival of the digital age.
Throughout most of the lobby, the new HVAC system created a condition of extremely limited ceiling depths, yet the importance of highlighting accent wall surfaces remained. Concealing all light sources was paramount so the luminaires do not distract from the architecture. BEAM created a unique mounting detail utilizing a standard shallow housing to create an effective and visually unobtrusive solution that balances the wall-washing cove lighting with the popped-up ceiling expressions.
