A transformative renovation overhauls Philadelphia’s premier residential address presiding over Pennsylvania Avenue
The renovation to the multistory tower included the lobby, lounges, porte-cochere, and terraces. The new scheme presented several challenges for the lighting design: noteworthy architectural elements to remain, limited budget with ambitious design goals, abundant sunlight, and an aging population needing higher illumination.
The lighting and architecture work in harmony with carefully detailed vertical and horizontal coves, illuminating beautiful art and materials, and emphasizing soaring ceilings and the grand scale.
New integrated lighting was added to the exterior stairs and ramp, along with indirect coves at the porte-cochere to create a welcoming beacon as one approaches the entrance. The cove lighting continues into the lobby, connecting the interior to the exterior. Stepping inside the large lobby vestibule, specialty walls are illuminated with concealed cove lighting.
Inside the lobby, undulating ceiling elements are accented and enhanced with a combination of cove lights and wall washers. A custom decorative pendant is situated in front of the double-sided fireplace, adding a welcoming charm to the space, while wood tile walls and various pieces of large art are accented in adjacent lounge areas.
Along the rear terrace, new illuminated bollard lighting and small aperture track lights at overhangs, brings the space to life and encourage people to use and enjoy the space outside.
