Named one of ‘The Best Bars in America 2024; by Esquire, this luxurious speakeasy is bathed in inviting light
Located in the basement of The Quoin, a historic Frank Furness bank building in downtown Wilmington, DE, this underground bar and lounge presented several challenges for the lighting design. Curved brick vaulted ceilings, low ceiling height, extensive hand-painted murals, a limited budget, and providing sufficient task lighting were all considered resulting in a design that intentionally creates a darkened and intimate environment.”
BEAM integrated light into the furniture and millwork, avoiding the historic materials, making the unique architecture and art the primary focus. Concealed lighting illuminates the beautiful furniture, rich finishes and varied textures, and provides a glare-free, visually comfortable design.
Illuminating the room-spanning mural pleases the eye and brings back the opulence of a storied speakeasy.
