In an urban skyline full of illuminated buildings, the lighting design for One Riverside makes a simple, yet powerful statement
BEAM successfully married the goals of owner, who desired color-changing capability and a strong presence on the Schuylkill River, with the architect, who anticipated lighting the building’s sleek profile modestly, with a striking solution. The well-integrated façade lighting does not create harsh glare into the surrounding parkland, adjacent railway or on-site garden, yet is bright enough from all vantage points.
A DMX control system with preset scenes allows ease in selecting a variety of colors and light shows. White is preferred to project a timeless and modern aesthetic, yet the ability to feature colors and kinetic shows for special events and holidays was critical to the building’s owner. In addition, each balcony is broken into two zones, allowing the north side, which is visible to residents, to be turned off during later hours.
