Loomis Chaffe School Scanlan Campus CenterLearn.

The Scanlan Campus Center is a vibrant and active center of student life for dining, studying and socializing

Loomis Chaffee’s student center reflects the classical architecture of this 150-year-old college prep boarding school in Windsor, CT, with lighting artfully integrated to echo the style of each space. During design, a study of the abundant natural lighting in relation to the potential luminaires was conducted.

For the grand dome-shaped ceiling in the student cafeteria and historic lounge, with architectural detailing reflecting the 1913 Loomis Hall, BEAM integrated small aperture, high-output downlights to not distract focus from the large decorative pendants that grace the dining space. A similar lighting strategy is implemented for the historic lounge to evenly illuminate the striking trim details.

BEAM also designed the lighting for the servery, retail café, lower-level classrooms and upper-level student study area. Industrial style pendants were selected to reflect the makerspace and breakout areas where students interact in a more relaxed learning environment.
