Illuminating a new art venue along the Delaware River enlivens the small town of Frenchtown, NJ
ArtYard is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing gallery space and a stage to established and emerging artists. BEAM designed a flexible yet budget-conscious lighting system for the art galleries that is also sensitive to the special requirements associated with fine art.
Backlit glass wall accents and house lighting in the theater were designed to integrate with the theatrical lighting controls for seamless operation and smooth dimming during performances. The performance lighting frames the theater, so the reclaimed plastic bottle chandelier (designed by artist Willie Cole) takes center stage in the ceiling.
ArtYard’s location in Frenchtown along the Delaware River is perfect for outdoor art exhibitions and events along the river. Nighttime illumination of the building and yard is critical to attract patrons of the arts and set the stage for outdoor rotating sculptures. Performances and film showings during warmer months are anticipated and lighting for all paths, ramp, yard and signage was integrated in the design for a seamless outdoor experience.
