Temple University OWLtech

Temple University sought to fill the need for a local computer sales and repair shop on campus. The high ceilings and strong street presence along Broad gave good reason for Temple to convert an under-utilized climbing wall in Pearson Hall. Working with the architect, BEAM blended lighting components of “tech lounge” experience and a retail store to achieve a ‘clean’ and highly functional, well-designed space in minimal square footage.

Angled and offset linear pendants crossing the suspended ceiling create a contemporary high tech feel by mimicking the repetition of computer chip circuitry. Adjustable track lighting allows the staff to aim the lighting to highlight product tables. Suspending the track between a series of floating ceilings allows for the track heads to take up a minimum amount of space. Ultimately, the lighting design allows the store’s products to take center stage.
