The Modules

This modular apartment building brings 72 contemporary housing units geared to a collegiate clientele to North15th Street, near Temple University in Philadelphia. BEAM developed a lighting scheme for the exterior and the garage and also helped realize the interior lighting concepts originally considered by ISA.

The exterior sidewalk is illuminated with 6.5ft high glowing “light-sticks” mounted to 1.5ft concrete bollards, providing excellent light at pedestrian level offering both personal comfort and physical safety. The front stairs are illuminated with concealed LED lighting within the handrail, and the entrance canopies glow from linear slot lighting. The interior uses a basic, affordable lensed fluorescent strip in a unique pattern to break up the 85ft long corridors, while providing efficient lighting throughout. BEAM also worked to ensure the power consumption outperformed current code in order for the building to meet LEED certification. Only three lamp sources were used for all fixtures specified by BEAM.
